Long Beach is a city on the Pacific Coast of the United States, within the Los Angeles metropolitan area of Southern California. As of 2010, its population was approximately 460,000. It is the 39th most populous city in the United States and the 7th most populous in California. Long Beach is the second-largest city in the Los Angeles metropolitan area and the third largest in Southern California behind Los Angeles and San Diego. Long Beach is a charter city. Home to the Port of the Long Beach it is the second busiest container port in the United States and is among the world’s largest shipping ports. Manufacturing sectors include those in aircraft, automotive parts, electronic equipment, audiovisual equipment, petrochemicals, precision metals and home furnishings.

Long Beach is composed of many different neighborhoods. Some neighborhoods are named after thoroughfares, while others are named for nearby parks, schools, or city features.

The city of Long Beach features a variety of amenities including the Aquarium of the Pacific, Rainbow Harbor & Marina, and the Queen Mary.  The city also features such recreation such as sailing, water skiing, and surfing. The Long Beach Unified School District serves most of the City of Long Beach and features California State University, Long Beach and Long Beach City College.
